The iO Gateway enables secure remote access, protocol conversion, and data aggregation for critical infrastructure networks as , part of the  iO Platform family. It is engineered for critical ISP facilities, central offices, and data center support rooms. The unit consolidates remote connectivity to power and cooling assets into a single centralized device. It gives the NOC secure, real-time visibility into UPS, DC power systems, power meters, BAS/BMS, HVAC, generators, and other critical equipment.

The iO Gateway supports multi-protocol, simultaneous connections: Modbus RTU/TCP, MQTT, and SNMP v1/v2c/v3. This provides centralized remote visibility on critical data. It also eliminates the need for external protocol converters and individual static IP addresses per smart device. The result is lower infrastructure cost and reduced cybersecurity exposure at the site level.

The iO Gateway is built on industrial telecom-grade hardware, with dual 48Vdc redundant input power and an operating range of -40°C to 65°C, ensuring reliable operation in the most demanding network environments.

Protocol Conversion

iO Supervisor integrates devices and systems using industry-standard protocols such as Modbus, MQTT, and SNMP, enabling centralized monitoring and management of assets including gensets, fuel systems, power meters, HVAC equipment, and environmental sensors. It supports LDAP authentication for centralized user access management and facilitates the seamless flow of alarms, events, and operational data to the NOC.

Cybersecurity

Legacy power and cooling devices using unencrypted protocols represent a known attack surface. The iO Gateway addresses this in three ways: SNMPv3 authentication and encryption, LDAP-based user identity validation, and physical network segmentation between the Local Area Network (LAN) and customer-facing networks.

IP Address Management

The iO Gateway aggregates all device connections behind a single IP endpoint. This frees static IP addresses for revenue-generating network and IT equipment. Because the unit’s Local Area Network (LAN) is self-managed, there is no dependency on IT for static IP requests. It also eliminates connectivity disruptions caused by external network reassignment. A centralized repository supports asset tracking and remote access.

Lithium Battery Integration / Battery Management System (BMS)

The iO Gateway integrates with any embedded Battery Management System (BMS) using industry-standard Modbus protocols and supports up to 512 lithium battery modules. It delivers real-time battery monitoring, including state of charge, state of health, runtime estimates, and environmental conditions. In addition to integrating with existing BMS controllers, the iO mini providies centralized monitoring, control, alarming, and reporting for critical battery assets. Seamless integration with FIRMSuite, Atlas, Cacti, Nagios, DCIM, and other network management systems enables efficient lithium battery management and enhanced operational reliability.

Discover Multitel's Complete Monitoring Ecosytem

Network management system that centralizes remote infrastructure monitoring, alarms, and asset intelligence.

RTU than combines direct sensor I/O, automated control outputs, and the secure communication capabilities of both the iO Gateway and iO mini.

The most compact iO Platform device, purpose-built for OSP cabinets and small ISP sites where rack space and power budget are limited

Frequently Asked Questions About the iO Gateway

Both devices share the same protocol conversion, IP address management, and cybersecurity capabilities.

The iO Gateway is designed for critical ISP facilities with higher data throughput requirements. The iO mini is the more compact option, engineered for outside plant (OSP) cabinets and smaller ISP deployments.

The iO Gateway handles protocol conversion, IP address management, and secure data aggregation from smart devices.

The iO Supervisor performs the same functions. It also adds direct analog and binary sensor inputs plus automated control outputs, making it a full remote telemetry unit (RTU).

Yes. The iO Gateway generates standard SNMP traps compatible with any NMS or fault management platform, including IBM Netcool, SolarWinds, Nagios, HP OpenView, and DCIM solutions. Multitel provides MIB files for compliance validation with the NOC.

Configuration for unlisted devices requires minimal Modbus RTU/TCP knowledge. Multitel’s technical support team can also assess integration effort and develop a standard configuration for specific equipment.
