FAQ

Q. What kind of batteries can I manage using FIRM Battery Management?

A. We provide data collection and analytics for vented lead-acid (VLA) and valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) type of batteries typically found in large DC stationary or UPS applications, whether 2V, 12V or other voltage types of cells/jars. A few of our customers are also using FIRM to manage NiCad batteries in similar applications. If you have to manage data for a UPS, a telecom site, a power utility substation, we most likely have a solution for you.

Q. Why do I need to test my batteries?

A. The one thing we absolutely know about batteries is: they will fail exactly when you need them. So why keep batteries in the field if you are not sure of their state-of-health? Everybody now knows that age-based replacement is unreliable. Testing your batteries will confirm that your investment is still performing, and will provide you with an accurate reserve time value for each of your sites. Unless you want to lose sites, testing your batteries and performing regular battery maintenance routines is the way to go.

Q. You say FIRM Battery Management is a web-based software. What does that mean?

A. Most recent software runs on servers: think Outlook, Gmail, SAP, Salesforce, Netcool and similar tools you use every day. FIRM Battery Management uses the latest database and server technologies to make sure you always have access to the most recent data. FIRM Battery Management can run from Multitel’s dedicated and secure servers, or we can deploy the solution on your own servers.

Q. If FIRM Battery Management runs from my servers, what does that mean?

A. It means you need to provide between two and three virtual machines that run on Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bits or 2012, and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 64 bits to help power our three-core server-side components: the application, database and real-time communication engine. This is a standard configuration and your OSS IT department should be able to provide these in a matter of days. Contact us for more detailed information.

Q. If I don’t have my own servers, can I still use FIRM Battery Management?

A. Absolutely! In fact, most of our customers don’t have their own servers from day one—or even ever. We provide fully secure, easy-to-scale server-side solutions in a software-as-a-service (SAAS) package. Contact us for more detailed information.

FAQ

Q. What kind of computer do I need to run FIRM Suite?

A. FIRM Suite is a web-based software. You don’t need any special computer. In fact, as long as you have an Internet browser and Internet access, you’ll be able to access FIRM Capacity Management.

Q. Once I’m ready to move forward, does it take a long time to deploy FIRM Suite to my users?

A. We understand time is money. We’ve built a comprehensive plan to make sure no time is wasted in deploying this solution to all your users. From day one, you will be assigned a dedicated account manager, who will handle business-specific aspects of our relationship, and a customer support specialist who will handle implementation and deployment of the solution following our four-step program: Rollout – Server – Data – Training.

Q. What does the acronym FIRM stand for in your product name?

A. FIRM stands for Facility Infrastructure Remote Management. It is the equivalent of Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM), but tailored for managing power and cooling in a telecom facility, which is a smaller footprint than data centers, but for which a typical telecom or cable company has hundreds, if not thousands, of sites to manage. FIRM is built for telecom facilities and offers solutions that cannot be found in traditional DCIM solutions.
