Q. Why do I need a branch circuit monitoring solution?

A. Data centers require a lot of energy to keep their systems running effectively. Primary energy demand is typically found in cooling systems, servers, and high power computing. The ability to monitor the demands of these specific systems offers better visibility to the energy consumption of the facility. This information can then be used to profile the energy allocation of individual systems and even to detect inefficiencies.  Branch Circuit Monitoring (BCM) also allows the segregation of multiple users, tenants, or system loads.

Q. Why PUE matters to data centers and customers?

A. Measurements of efficiency such as PUE helps data center owners/operators gauge their overall operations; as well identify opportunities to increase efficiency. A lower PUE rating means a more efficient data center, which in turn means lower operating costs for both the owner/operator and customer. A data center that makes the best use of its power without wasting available resources costs less to maintain and manage, and these savings can be passed on to the customers.

 

Q. Was this built for any type of telecom facility?

A. Yes, it can be installed in any type of buildings, but we recommend you to install it in a shelter-type building, such as a WIC, hut, wireless shelter or small CO building type of telecom facilities. It can also be installed in a small to mid-sized data center.

Q. Does the FUSION integrate easily with surveillance management platforms?

A. Yes. We are fully compliant with all of our customers’ network management and surveillance platforms, be it Netcool, SolarWinds or others. If you’re shopping for a RTU, you’re likely looking for SNMP compatibility. We will provide you with the FUSION MIB file to easily integrate and validate the FUSION’s full compliance with your NOC’s network management or surveillance platform.

Q. If I need to replace an old RTU, how quickly can I get a FUSION?

A. The FUSION RTU is a very popular product, but we always have the most common configurations in stock. If you currently have old RTU or alarm systems, which can be expensive to replace or are technically out-of-date, we can provide you with a FUSION RTU within a week.

Q. Is the FUSION SNMP-ready?

A. Yes. We support multiple communications protocols on the FUSION, such as Modbus and TL1 (Transaction Language 1). However, SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) over IP is the most commonly used protocol for communication to and from the FUSION RTU. It makes FUSION the perfect alarm RTU for reporting into network management platforms used by a Network Operations Center (NOC), such as Netcool or SolarWinds.

Q. Does the FUSION integrate easily with surveillance management platforms?

A. Yes. We are fully compliant with all of our customers’ network management and surveillance platforms, be it Netcool, SolarWinds or others. Q. Do you have a modem on the FUSION?

A. Yes. As you may suspect, a lot of telecom facilities still don’t have IP drops in them. FUSION was built to support standard legacy communications protocols; we can therefore provide you with a FUSION that has a modem, or one that is both Ethernet IP and modem-communication-enabled. Our modem can communicate up to 56kbps.

Q. What do you mean by telecom-grade RMU?

A. The FUSION RMU is a telecom-grade system because is runs natively on 48Vdc power, complies with UL 60950-1, has 0-60mV I/O front end specifications, integrates the most common telecom-used network protocols such as SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), Modbus and TL1 (Transaction Language 1) and is NEBS compliant. We take real pride in making sure our products are developed for the telecom industry and meet the highest level of telecom compliance.

Q. If I have Modbus sensors and probes in my telecom facility, can I connect them to the FUSION?

A. Absolutely. The FUSION comes native with Modbus communications capabilities. In its base configuration, you can connect up to 64 Modbus devices on a single FUSION RMU. The FUSION also makes for the perfect Modbus-to-SNMP gateway.

Q. How many monitoring points can the FUSION RMU support?

A. The FUSION is a highly configurable and expandable RMU, as such, it can be equipped with the exact number of analog monitoring, as well as alarm/binary, points you require: from a minimum of 5 analog monitoring points in its smallest configuration, to a few hundred in some of our largest installations. As a reference, the most common installation of the FUSION RTU has around 11 analog monitoring points, as well as a 2 to 3 Modbus modules reporting in real-time.
