Industry Challenges
In order to provide safe water, ensure public health and a continuous water supply, water utilities must continually monitor operational equipment. Strict regulations are placed on water quality, testing and reporting, all while trying to improve service levels. A breakdown, failure or downtime of any facility directly impacts public safety and can add substantial costs in time and travel for operation and maintenance. Additionally, the treatment process alone can create a range of toxic, dangerous gases that must be monitored inside the plant for the safety of personnel.

Multitel Water & Wastewater Solutions
Multitel’s remote monitors offer a greater level of remote telemetry and control to support regulatory reporting guidelines by providing real-time continuous monitoring of water quality and plant conditions by reporting the information electronically.

Water and Wastewater facilities and network managers can do preventative maintenance and troubleshooting with equipment and software that offers better QoS, lowers expenses and creates better cost margins for operational managers and water technicians.

Applications

Water & Wastewater Applications
Potable Water Systems
Multitel systems used in a potable (fresh) water applications, monitor and control the acquisition of untreated water from surface and underground sources by the water treatment plant and the delivery of treated water by the treatment plant to both ground and elevated storage vessels. The water treatment plant typically has process control systems in place to control the filtering, settling, chlorine / fluorine injection processes, backwash and other maintenance procedures. Multitel ties together off-site water acquisition and storage monitoring to in-plant processes to create total system control.

System Functions
  • Control the movement of treated water from the ground storage tank to elevated tanks
  • Monitor water levels in elevated tanks
  • Control pump start & stop commands
  • Monitor water rate-of-use
  • Invoke alternate pumping strategies during periods of higher use
  • Start and stop pumps at water acquisition sites according to the needs of filtering and settling
  • Start and stop pumps at water acquisition sites according to the needs of filtering and settling
  • Start and stop pumps at water acquisition sites according to the needs of filtering and settling processes within treatment plants

Wastewater Systems
Wastewater systems deal with the collection and movement of waste material (sewage) from houses, apartments, and businesses to sewage treatment plants. Multitel monitors and automates equipment functions at designated wastewater sites.

System Functions
  • Detect malfunctions and failures by sending out alarm messages
  • Count the number of pump starts, elapse or run time for each pump
  • Control pump start & stop commands
  • Get pump status messages that may signal if there is a potential for large obstructions
  • Monitor the security of all remote sites in the system, as well as unauthorized entry, high or low temperature, high humidity, high sump level, etc.
  • Loss of main power, activation of on-site backup power sources, and the fuel levels for those backup power sources may all be monitored and reported appropriately
